 Intuitive Eating

Are you looking to move away from chronic dieting? Have you developed a love-hate relationship with food? Does the number on the scale in the morning determine your mood, or what you will eat for the day? Has eating become a point system without enjoyment? Are you tired of this?

Would you like to spend more time enjoying your life and doing what you really love than worrying about what you put in your mouth at every bite? Perhaps Intuitive Eating is for you then?

Intuitive Eating described as "freeing" by many of my clients is a way to make peace with food. Designed by two Registered Dietitians – Elyse Resch & Evelyne Tribole, over 20 years ago, it is now gaining great popularity. We believe our bodies have internal wisdom that provides us with body cues to let us know when we are hungry or full. With our diet-obsessed culture, some of us have developed an inability to recognize these cues – we can help you with this. Suzanne is a Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor (Sarah is working on this designation) that has received extensive training and supervision intuitive eating. This approach entails accepting all foods and embracing nutrition gently. It encompasses finding joyful movement (not exercising for calorie burning) and learning to respect the way our bodies are meant to be.

Intuitive Eating is a process, not a diet. It is for life. Most of us are actually born intuitive eaters, but many of us have moved away from it. If you have tried and are exhausted from all the restriction, counting and guilt then maybe it's time to get back to your innate body wisdom. We can help you with this, we've been using this approach for many years in our practice.

Whether you suspect you have an eating disorder or have been officially diagnosed with one we can help you work towards recovery. You deserve to be able to reach your fullest potential, which requires nourishment. We can help you work towards nourishing yourself through planning meals and snacks, leaving space to understand the link between your emotions and eating, and slowly work towards becoming an intuitive eater in the final stages of recovery. We can help you find peace with food and make eating less complicated.

Eating Disorder Recovery works best with a supportive team approach - which can include your physician &/or nurse practitioner, a therapist, as well as a Dietitian. Part of our work with you will include communicating on a regular basis with the other health care practitioners on your team to ensure we're all working together with you towards your recovery goals. If you do not have an established team we can connect you with specialists in this field. At this time we only work with adults 19years old and up. You can find a youth provider at National Eating Disorders Information Centre.
